Spike-landing Motion of Elite Male Volleyball Players during Official Games

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the motions during the airborne phase and their relations with single-legged landing position in elite male volleyball players during o‹cial games, and gain insights into techniques for safe landing. The spike-landing motions of four male world-level right-handed volleyball players were recorded with two high-speed video cameras during o‹cial games for a three-dimensional analysis. The results indicated a large trunk twist and a trunk left lean during the airborne p… Show more

“…The majority of the studies (83.3%) presented a cross-sectional/descriptive design. 35,10,13,14,18,19,21,22,3438 The investigations highlighted: (a) kinematic differences between different types of sports, 21,36,37 technique, 10,19 sex 14 and experience; 14 (b) jump and reach height, volleyball spike kinematic analysis related to ball speed or spike direction 4,13,17,18 and (c) safety and/or injury prevention 5 , 10 , 17 , 18 , 20 , 22 , 35 , 38 , 39 (Table 2).…”

“…1,2 The spike is a specific skill of the volleyball with high coordinative demands that is characterized by several phases: a run, the countermovement jump, a set of explosive overhead actions in the air and a landing phase. 35 The complexity in the analysis of the spike advanced in the last decades and has generated practical implications for coaches and athletes. 6…”
