Spiropyran‐Conjugated Pluronic as a Dual Responsive Colorimetric Detector

Abstract: Novel spiropyran-conjugated Pluronic [polyethylene oxide (PEO)-b-polypropylene oxide (PPO)-b-polyethylene oxide (PEO)] micelles are developed as a new colorimetric detector showing photo- or thermo-switchable behavior. Facile conjugation of spiropyran to Pluronic was confirmed by (1)H NMR, UV-Vis, and Fluorescence spectroscopy. A switchable photoluminescence is found depending on the irradiation with either UV or visible light, and temperature resulting from structural isomerization of spiropyran between spiro… Show more

“…Photochromic spiropyran (SP) was conjugated with the PPNM polymer to prepare a PEG‐g‐[poly(NIPAAm‐co‐MAA‐SP)] polymer (SP‐PPNM; Figure S1 in the Supporting Information) 27. 28 In detail, spiropyran (0.07 g) was mixed with PEG‐grafted poly(NIPAAm‐co‐MAA) (1 g) by treatment with equimolar (equiv.) DMAP (0.0277 g) and DCC (0.0468 g) in dry DCM (30 mL).…”

“…1) [19]. Inspired by such switchable characteristic with different remarkable properties, e.g., absorption spectra, dipole moment, dielectric constant, geometrical structure, and coordination property etc., light sensitive polymers containing spiropyran units have been fabricated for specific applications such as bioimaging [20], controlled release [1,21,22], mechanic sensor [23], colorimetric detector [24,25], etc. On the other hand, acid/base-responsive polymers in aqueous media have drawn increasing attention [26][27][28].…”

“…CCDP‐q‐[PEG‐g‐poly(DMA‐co‐MAA)] (C‐PDM, Mn:13,200) was synthesized, following a method similar to our previous work . To prepare the spiropyran conjugated CCDP‐q‐[PEG‐g‐poly(DMA‐co‐MAA)] (C‐PDM), 0.177 g of spiropyran was mixed with 3 g of C‐PDM by reaction with equimolar equivalents of DMAP (0.071 g) and DCC (0.12 g) in dry dichloromethane (70 mL).…”
