Spontaneous and Stimulated Emission by Self-Trapped Excitons in Cadmium Iodide

Abstract: The spontaneous and the stimulated emission of CdI2 have been studied in the temperature range from 10 to 200°K, under low and high intensity of excitation by means of a nitrogen laser (Imax= 10 MW/cm2, τ= 5 nsec), whose photon energy was 3.68 eV, i.e. larger than the energy gap of the ionic crystals of CdI2.
