Spread spectrum communications using chirp signals

Abstract: Ahtmct-We report on the use of broadband chirp s i p nals for spread spectrum systems in indoor applications. The presented system concepts make use of chirp transmission and pulse compression. Different modulation schemes for chirp signals resulting in different system performance and complexity are compared in terms of bit error rate for the AWGN channel and for frequency selective indoor radio channels. We present simulations and measurement results from demonstrator systems which use surface acoustic waveS… Show more

“…The concept of chirp pulse based UWB (Chirp-UWB) [3] is that the system spectrum of the chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology based UWB system satisfies FCC regulation and also generates the desired power spectrum to avoid the interference with NB systems. Chirp-UWB system has remarkable superiority such as low complexity, long transmission distance, avoidance of high peak to average ratio and so on.…”

“…The communication system using the non-linear chirp signal performs better than the conventional communication and interference suppression schemes because it can increase the data transmission rate and decrease interference at the same time [18][19]. Therefore, the non-linear chirp signal has been a widely used communication system to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance [20][21]. However, this paper proposes a new non-linear chirp signal modulation system for navigation systems.…”
