“…The secretion of her DAG probably combines several functions, e.g. olfactory repellents and attractants and an alarm pheromone effect in larvae as in E. grisea (Maschwitz & Gutmann, 1979;Evans et al, 1990;Staddon, 1990;Aldrich et al, 1995). Presumably, the DAG secretion of females providing maternal care, as Acanthosomatidae do, can also have an alarm effect for young larvae that is in addition to the repellent effect on an intruder.…”

“…Hitherto, the alarm pheromone of hemipterans has been restricted to (E)-2-hexenal, which has been reported as the active component for Dysdercus in termedius, 2) Cimex lectularius (along with (E)-2-octenal),3) Eurydema rugosa, E. pulchra, and Nezara viridula,4) and Elasmucha grisea. 5 ) A considerable amount of this semiochemical, however, was required to display dispersive behavior. On the other hand, (E)-2-hexenyl hexanoate has been previously identified from females of a capsid bug, Blepharidopterus angulatus, 6) although no biological activity was found.…”
