Sputnik Light and Sputnik V Vaccination Is Effective at Protecting Medical Personnel from COVID-19 during the Period of Delta Variant Dominance

Abstract: Medical personnel are a group of people that often encounter infectious agents, leading to greater risk of contracting infectious diseases. Specific prevention of diseases in this group is a priority. The epidemiological effectiveness of COVID-19 prevention in the group of medical workers due to the emergence of new variants of concern of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has not been studied in sufficient depth. We conducted a study of the effectiveness of vaccine use to protect medical workers at a large medical center f… Show more

“…Both seropositive and seronegative participants showed strong humoral (enhanced neutralizing antibody response) and cellular immune response (increased antigen-specific T cell proliferation, production of IFNγproducing cells, and their cytokine secretion) upon vaccination [54]. Sputnik Light is also proven to be effective against the Delta variant of coronavirus [43,44].…”

“…It uses a heterologous recombinant adenovirus approach with Ad26 and Ad5 as vectors for the expression of the S protein. This vaccine was safe with 91.6% efficacy and generated a good humoral and cell-mediated immunity against SARS-CoV-2, including the omicron variants [78][79][80][81]. Sputnik light is another COVID-19 vaccine by Gamaleya where the S protein is expressed by the Ad5 vector.…”

“…Sputnik light is another COVID-19 vaccine by Gamaleya where the S protein is expressed by the Ad5 vector. This vaccine has an efficacy of 79.4% and has proven effective against all variants including delta and omicron [81][82][83]. The Ad26.COV2.S or Jcovden was developed by Janssen (Beerse, Belgium), the pharmaceutical wing of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ).…”

“…The protective effect of Sputnik V against death from COVID-19 was demonstrated in a large study in Hungary; however, this occurred before the period of delta variant dominance [9] . Sputnik V has been shown to be effective against this variant in a small study among medical professionals [14] . However, its effect on mortality did not study in that research.…”
