The present study investigates how the thermal stability of retinol (vitamin A) encapsulated in polyester nanoparticles is influenced by the types of polyester used for the nanoparticles. A variety of polyester-retinol nanoparticles were prepared with various polyesters like: poly(ethylene adipate), PEA; poly(butylene adipate), PBA; poly(hexamethylene adipate), PHMA; and three polycaprolactones, PCL, of different molecular weights (M n ~10, 40, and 80K). C. More importantly, this study has also found that the thermal stability of the retinol in the nanoparticles was closely connected with the melting temperatures of polyesters and polyester nanoparticles. The results were further discussed with possible factors -such as sample preparation condition (or history) and miscibility between the polyesters and retinol -affecting T m of the polyesters and the nanoparticles.

No Brasil o consumo de vitamina C sob a forma de concentrados vitamínicos ainda é bastante restrito devido aos altos preços, restando para a maioria da população o consumo via alimentos como frutas e vegetais. A dosagem de vitamina C em alimentos tem, então, um papel crucial no que diz respeito aos estudos pós-colheita para a conservação e a minimização das perdas deste nutriente tão sensível. Neste estudo, é apresentado um método para análise de vitamina C por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência utilizando coluna de troca iônica forma hidrogênio, que demonstrou ser mais eficiente do que os métodos usuais por coluna de fase reversa (C18) para matrizes complexas e baixos teores do analito. A reprodução dos perfis cromatográficos foi em nível de linha de base com picos de pureza espectral comprovada por detector de arranjo de diodos. Esse método também foi avaliado segundo a extração mais adequada para estabilização da vitamina C, e mostrou que a fase móvel (ácido sulfúrico suprapuro ® 0,05 M) foi uma solução extratora adequada para a estabilização da vitamina C. In Brazil, vitamin C supplements are expensive and most of the population obtains vitamin C through its consumption of fruits and vegetables. Therefore, the vitamin C assay in food is crucial in post-harvest studies to conserve and minimize losses of this highly sensitive nutrient. This study proposes a method for analyzing vitamin C by High Performance Liquid Chromatography using a hydrogen type ion exchange column, and demonstrates that it is more efficient than the traditional methods of reverse phase column (C18) for complex matrixes and low levels of this analyte. Chromatograms were baseline resolved and peak purity evaluation showed spectral homogeneity by photo diode array detector. This method was also tested using the best extraction solution to stabilize vitamin C, demonstrating that 0.05 M of superpure sulfuric acid (also the mobile phase) was the most efficient solution for this purpose.

Enhancement of skin permeation of vitamin C using vibrating microneedles

This study was performed to evaluate the use of vibrating microneedles for the transdermal delivery of vitamin C. The microneedles were designed to vibrate at three levels of intensity. In vitro permeation by vitamin C was evaluated according to the specific conditions such as vibration intensity (levels 1, 2 and 3), application time (1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 min), and application power (500, 700 and 1,000 g). The highest permeation of vitamin C was observed at level 3 of vibration intensity, 5 min of application, and 1,000 g of application power. Vitamin C gel showed no cytotoxic effect against Pam212 cells or skin irritation effects. A pharmacokinetic study of the gel in rats was conducted under optimized conditions. The AUC 0 -∞ and C max increased 1.35-fold and 1.44-fold, respectively, compared with those after vitamin C gel without application with vibrating microneedles. The present study suggests that vibrating microneedles can be used to facilitate the skin permeability of vitamin C under optimal conditions.
