Stacked rectangular dielectric resonator antenna with different volumes for wideband circular polarization coupled with step‐shaped conformal strip

Abstract: This paper presents a wideband circularly polarized broadside radiation characteristics by using stacked rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with different volumes. In this designed antenna, the wide input impedance-and axial ratio (AR)bandwidths come from three factors: stacked rectangular DR with different volumes, stepped-shaped conformal strip associated with microstrip line as a feed and different type of partial ground plane. Here, the orthogonal TE x δ11 and TE y 1δ1 modes have been responsib… Show more

“…Axial ratio (AR), which is by far the most popular parameter for measuring the purity of circular polarization, is the ratio of the major to the minor axes of the polarization ellipse, traced out by the tip of the electric field vector, measured along the boresight of the proposed antenna, that can be obtained from the well‐known Equation () 13 . Where E max and E min represent the length of the major and the minor axes of the polarization ellipse, respectively. italicAR()dB=20logEmaxEmin …”

“…In order to improve the CP bandwidth of DRAs with single‐feed structure, many single‐feed methods are reported in References 8‐20, which involves coaxial‐probe feeding, 8 microstrip‐line feeding, 9,10 a stair‐shaped microstrip‐line feeding, 11 stepped‐shaped conformal strip‐line feeding, 12 and slot‐coupled feeding, 12‐15 such as asymmetrical U‐slot 13 Archimedean spiral slot 14 et. In Reference 16, 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 21.5% could be obtained by using an inclined slot to feed a trapezoidal DRA.…”
