Staphylococcal slime layers and biofilm from different origins

Abstract: The genus Staphylococcus comprises some of the most important pathogenic bacteria for both humans and animals. It is responsible for bovine mastitis and canine otitis, besides being present in the microbiota of animals and as a contaminant in food. Its pathogenesis is related to the formation of capsule and biofilm, which contribute to its infectivity. The objective of this study was to observe the production of slime layer and formation of biofilm, which are related to the resistance to antimicrobial agents a… Show more

“…Bacteria resistance is its ability to evade from the bactericidal or bacteriostatic mechanisms of a particular antibiotic, which reflects their structural or functional characteristics (34) . In this context, the identification of antibiotic bacteria resistance is relevant for an efficient antibiotic choice and successful treatment (35) .…”

“…Bacterial biofilm present protective functions against dehydration, bacteriophage infection and antimicrobial agents. Importantly, the biofilms are a major concern in the food industry for their potential to resist antimicrobial treatments, facilitating pathogenic contamination and food degradation [ 1 ].…”

“…Esta relação entre resistência a antimicrobianos e a formação de biofilme já foi relatada em estudos anteriores, onde isolados de Staphylococcus aureus resistentes a antimicrobianos da classe dos beta-lactâmicos também obtiveram resultado positivo para formação de biofilme (Marques, 2016;Cunha., et al, 2019). Os resultados de Cad.…”
