State, Society and Islam in the Western Regions of the Sahara

Abstract

Alberto López Bargados (University of Barcelona -GRECS) is Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Barcelona (UB) and a member of the Grup de Recerca sobre Exclusió i Control Socials (GRECS). He has published on topics such as Saharan 'tribal' systems and their adaptations through colonial processes, as well as Islamic practices in the contexts of diaspora. Between 2017 and 2021 he was a senior scientific consultant to the ERC-funded project Capsahara (Grant Agreement No. 716467) hosted by CRIA -NOVA FCSH in Lisbon, Portugal.Enrique Bengochea Tirado (CRIA -NOVA FCSH), historian, is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the María Zambrano programme at the University of Valencia. He has published on the Spanish colony of the Sahara and legal pluralism in Islam among the Saharawi from the late colonial to the contemporary period. From 2017 to 2021 he was a post-doctoral researcher at the ERC-funded project Capsahara (Grant Agreement No. 716467) hosted by CRIA -NOVA FCSH in Lisbon, Portugal.
