For a mechanism of the surface expression phase in the authors' narrative generation system architecture, this paper proposes an approach to the circulative generation by the mutual transformation between music and narrative. In the concept for musical mechanism, music is not just the accompaniment for narrative and the authors extremely aim at using musical knowledge & techniques and conceptual knowledge & techniques in fusion by the medium of music. Depending on this concept, in this paper, the authosr introduce the newest prototyping system composed of eight routes of transformation modules between narrative and music including automatic composition and musical variation mechanisms. In addition, through the simple preliminary evaluations, the authors consider several insufficient points in the quality of music and the correspondence of music to narrative.

We propose an approach as the circular generation process by the mutual transformation between music and narrative for a mechanism of the surface expression phase in our narrative generation system framework. In the concept for musical mechanism, music is not just the accompaniment for narrative and we extremely aim at using musical knowledge & techniques and conceptual knowledge & techniques in fusion by the medium of music. In addition, we expect that the blending of linguistic logic and musical logic leads to the unexpected narrative creation. This is also relating to a general idea that the creation of a novel product or idea is sometimes produced by the fusion of different things or ideas. This paper shows the newest prototyping system composed of eight transformation modules including automatic composition process and musical variation process. The objective of this system is to implement all of circulation routes experimentally with the revision of existing music-based programs. And through the simple preliminary evaluation, we discover several insufficient points in the quality of music and the correspondence of music to narrative.

The authors developed a folktale generator system (FGS) based on the narrative function theory of Vladimir Propp which is used as the story grammar. FGS allows users to generate diverse story plots by drawing curves, intuitively. Each functional segment of Propp's theory in a story is modified into ten variations (including the original one), given a score attribute from one to ten, and then stored in a database as text scripts. Hence, by intuitively drawing a curve, variations can be selected from the database and connected together based on their scores to construct a new story. Thanks to the multitudinous possibilities of stories that it offers, FGS can bring a new breath to traditional folktales and enhance conserving its cultural values. It will also help directors and game designers in the fields of narrative and story design.
