Strategies for conservative and non-conservative monotone remapping on the sphere

Abstract: Abstract. Monotonicity is an important property of remapping operators for coupled weather and climate models. However, it is often challenging to design highly accurate operators that avoid the generation of new extrema or keep a remapped field between physically prescribed bounds.
