Stripping Voltammetric Determination of Timolol Drug in Pharmaceuticals and Biological Fluids

Abstract: A sensitive and reliable stripping voltammetric method was developed to determine timolol drug. This method is based on the adsorptive accumulation of the drug at a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) and then a negative sweep was initiated, which yield a well defined cathodic peak at –850 mV versus (Ag/AgCl) silver reference electrode. To achieve high sensitivity, various experimental and instrumental variables were investigated such as supporting electrolyte, pH, accumulation time and potential, scan rate,… Show more

“…Phosphate buffer was prepared by dissolving 12 g of NaH 2 PO 4 (0.1 mole) and 6.78 mL of H 3 PO 4 (0.1 mole) in distilled water [10]. On the other hand, to obtain pH ≈ 2 of Britton-Robinson buffer, 2.47 g of H 3 BO 3, 2.3 mL of glacial CH 3 COOH and 2.7 ml of orthophosphoric acid were mixed and diluted to 1 liter with distilled water (0.04 M in each constituent).also the acetate buffer was prepared by mixing 1.68 g of C 2 H 3 NaO 2 with 1.12 ml of CH 3 COOH in 500 mL of distilled water, the mixture was then diluted to one liter with same solvent [16].…”
