“…Most marine ecological enquiry in NWA has focused on characterizing biodiversity, community assemblages and species distributions (Harvey et al., ; Hutchins, ; McKinnon, Duggan, Holliday, & Brinkman, ; McLean et al., ; Moore & Morrison, ; Moore, Morrison, Hutchins, Allen, & Sampey, ; Poore & O'Hara, ; Travers, Newman, & Potter, ; Travers, Potter, Clarke, & Newman, ; Travers, Potter, Clarke, Newman, & Hutchins, ; Wilson, ). A limited number of studies have investigated connectivity among the distinct but ecologically and economically important Australian coastal ecosystems (Broderick et al., ; Horne, Momigliano, van Herwerden, & Newman, ; Horne, Momigliano, Welch, Newman, & van Herwerden, , ; Johnson, Hebbert, & Moran, ; Johnson & Joll, ; Ovenden, Lloyd, Newman, Keenan, & Slater, ; Taillebois et al., ; Veilleux, van Herwerden, Evans, Travers, & Newman, ), and none have focused on inshore fishes with a comprehensive sample coverage across substantial environmental gradients. This emerging frontier in NWA therefore provides the ideal model system to increase our understanding of larval dispersal and connectivity in a management context.…”
