Structural and luminescence properties of Sm3+‐doped bismuth phosphate glass for orange‐red photonic applications

Abstract: In the present study, the effect of bismuth oxide (Bi O ) content on the structural and optical properties of 0.5Sm -doped phosphate glass and the effect of concentration on structural and optical properties of Sm -doped bismuth phosphate (BiP) glass were studied. Structural characterization was accomplished using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrosco… Show more

“…The decay times obtained were 3.42, 3.99, 3.98, 2.96, 1.67, 1.48 ms for 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1.00, 2.00 and 4.00 mol% of Sm2O3 doped in borate glass, respectively. The lifetime decreases when the Sm2O3 concentration increases due to an increase in the energy transfer process of the Sm 3+ ion [11,40]. From these coordinates it shows that all Sm2O3 glass samples emit the same emission coordinates of the light emission, so that all coordinates can be approximated to (0.59, 0.40).…”

“…Damodaraiah et al prepared Sm 3+ doped Bismuth phosphate glass by traditional melt quenching method. The results show that the combination of 10mol% Bi 2 O 3 and 0.5mol% Sm 3+ ions in Bismuth phosphate glass is an effective orange-red photonic material [7]. Khan et al synthesized Sm 2 O 3 doped lithium barium gadolinium silicate glass by traditional melt quenching technique.…”

“…Among the different inorganic glass systems, phosphate glasses have been studied for numerous industrial applications [ 24 , 25 ] and for broad optical applications in the range of visible luminescence [ 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ] and infrared luminescence [ 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 ]. These glass materials containing rare earth ions such as Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ , Er 3+ can be successfully used for high-power laser systems, optical amplifiers and optical sensors due to their excellent luminescent properties [ 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ].…”
