Structural Change in Ni-Fe-Ga Magnetic Shape Memory Alloys after Severe Plastic Deformation

Abstract: Severe plastic deformation (SPD) is widely considered to be the most efficient process in obtaining ultrafine-grained bulk materials. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the SPD process on Ni-Fe-Ga ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMA). High-speed high-pressure torsion (HSHPT) was applied in the as-cast state. The exerted key parameters of deformation are described. Microstructural changes, including morphology that were the result of processing, were investigated by optical and scanning elec… Show more

“…Change of elemental composition of dendrites was also observed at crystallization of other alloys with SME. For instance, in [21] the elemental mapping using electron scanning microscope in Ni 52 Fe 20 Ga 26 Co 2 alloy revealed increase of iron and cobalt content in dendrite and decrease of gallium content compared to surrounding matrix. Similar result in terms of these elements change was also observed in [16].…”

“…It should be noted, that dendritic structure formation is rather common phenomenon during crystallization of metal alloys based on iron and nickel [16][17][18][19][20][21]. Dendritesa structural defect of characteristic skeletal shape, consisting of a central branch (main axis) and side branches, perpendicular to it.…”

“…Such alloys *Corresponding author: tel. : +86 15225916801; e-mail address: lyf16816800@163.com can be deposited on almost any conductive substrate and are mainly used as novel ferromagnetic memory materials in the electronics industry [14,15]. Furthermore, when the mass fraction of cobalt in Ni-Co alloy coatings is below 40 %, the coating has good corrosion resistance, high hardness, and good wear resistance.…”

“…Надо заметить, что образование дендритной структуры -достаточно распространенное явление при кристаллизации металлических сплавов на основе железа и никеля [16][17][18][19][20][21]. Дендриты -это структурный дефект характерной скелетной формы, состоящий из центральной ветви (ось первого порядка) и перпендикулярных ей боковых ветвей.…”
