Structural organization of lipid-functionalized-Au nanoparticles

Abstract: Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are considered suitable systems for drug delivery and diagnostics with several applications in biomedicine. Size, shape and surface functionalization of these nanoparticles are important parameters influencing their behavior in a biological environment. This study describes the preparation and the characterization of lysophosphocholine coated AuNPs by means of Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS), Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) and Fluorescence Spectroscopy. In particular the… Show more

“…Thus, the LPC with the lowest cmc, i.e., 18LPC, resulted the best choice for producing single SPIONs coated with the HLB and avoiding SPION aggregation (Luchini et al, 2016a). NP coating with LPC molecules through the solvent-transfer approach was as well-extended to AuNPs exhibiting an oleylamine capping layer (Luchini et al, 2018).…”

“…S5 †), probably inducing a partial rearrangement of the lipid aggregates. A quantitative analysis of EPR spectra was performed by determining, from the splittings between the minimum and maximum points, the two parameters a 0 N and S. [38][39][40] S is the order parameter and is related to the angular amplitudes of motion of the label, which in turn reects the motion of the acyl chain segment to which the label is bound, while a 0 N is an index of the micropolarity experienced by the nitroxide. a 0 N and S were calculated according to the following relations:…”

“…CeO 2 -NPs can effectively be made water-soluble with a further functionalization process based on hydrophobic interactions between the alkyl tails of the oleylamine as capping agent and the amphiphilic sodium oleate, confirming a successful strategy to functionalize nanoparticles [ 40 , 70 , 71 ]. The idea to use sodium oleate represents a not-common choice to decorate CeO 2 -NPs prepared by thermal decomposition method, thus proposing as a promising approach to obtain stable formulations.…”

“…Furthermore, the CeO 2 -NPs the most promising characteristics (smaller size and better separation of nanoparticles) were functionalized with an amphiphilic molecule, namely sodium oleate (NaOl), in order to disperse them in water. The colloidal stability of functionalized CeO 2 -NPs at different NPs:NaOl ratios was monitored in time with the aim to define the optimal systems with a greater long-term stability in aqueous environment [ 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ]. Finally, the selected sample was analyzed through MTT assay on eukaryotic cells in order to evaluate the biocompatibility and the antioxidant activity.…”
