“…One of the reasons for such a scenario might be the formation of other ternary phases that become thermodynamically preferable as one moves towards lanthanides with smaller ionic radii. A number of other rare‐earth cobalt phosphides with more complex structures are known, such as RE Co 3 P 2 ,8 RE Co 5 P 3 ,9 RE Co 8 P 5 ,10 RE 2 Co 12 P 7 ,11 and RE 5 Co 19 P 12 12. A careful examination of these compounds reveals structural elements related to RE Co 2 P 2 .…”

“…Magnetic properties of RE Co 2 P 2 have been studied in detail, [3–5,13–15] and the magnetic properties of RE Co 8 P 5 10 and RE 2 Co 12 P 7 16,17 were also investigated. Nothing is known, however, about the magnetic behavior of RE Co 3 P 2 and RE Co 5 P 3 .…”

“…The structure of these phosphides was first determined for Zr 2 Fe 12 P7 (Ganglberger, 1968 a). The series RCo 5 P 3 crystallizes with YCo 5 P 3 -type structure (Meisen and Jeitschko, 1984a), RCo 3 P 2 with HoCo 3 P 2 -type structure (Jeitschko and Jakubowski, 1985;Chikhrii, Orishchin and Kuz 'ma, 1989), R5C019P12 with ScsCoi9Pi 2 -type structure (JakubowskiRipke and and RCo 8 P 5 with LaCo 8 P 5 -type structure (Meisen and Jeitschko, 1984b;Reehuis, Jeitschko, Mörsen and Müller-Warmuth, 1988). LaCo 5 P 3 has a structure (Davydov and Kuz'ma, 1981) which is different from that of YCo s P 3 , and ScCoP crystallizes with TiNiSitype structure (Jeitschko and Reinbold, 1985).…”
