Structure Life Extension towards the Structural Integrity of Sukhoi Su-30MKM

Abstract: The airframe structures of most fighter aircraft in the Royal Malaysian Airforce have been in service for 10 to 20 years. The effect of fatigue loading, operating conditions, and environmental degradation has led to the structural integrity of the airframe being assessed for its airworthiness. Various NDT methods were used to determine the current condition of the aircraft structure after operation of beyond 10 years, and their outcomes are summarized. In addition, although there are six critical locations, th… Show more

“…Excellent examples of these materials are AA2219-T87 (UTS = 470 MPa) and AA7075-T651 (UTS = 570 MPa) alloys, widely used in the aerospace and military industry [ 13 , 14 ]. Examples of these applications include aircraft [ 15 ], sub-caliber ammunition [ 16 ], military bridges [ 17 ], and missile components [ 18 ]. Additional metal forming makes it possible to increase their strength; however, appropriate process conditions should be maintained, especially low temperature, to prevent the overaging of the strengthening phase, which would result in a drastic decrease in an alloy’s strength [ 19 ].…”
