Structure of ferric pseudobactin: a siderophore from a plant growth promoting Pseudomonas

Abstract: Both plant growth promoting Pseudomonas B10 and its yellow-green, fluorescent iron transfer agent (siderophore) pseudobactin enhance the growth of the potato and control certain phytopathogenic microorganisms. The structure of the little compound has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods using counter data. The structure consisted of a linear hexapeptide, L-Lys-D-threo-beta-OH-Asp-L-Ala-D-allo-Thr-L-Ala-D-N delta-OH-Orn, in which the N delta-OH nitrogen of the ornithine was cyclized with … Show more

“…Pseudobactin B10 consists of a linear hexapeptide (L-Lys-D-threo-␤-OH-Asp-L-Ala-D-allo-Thr-LAla-D-N 5 -OH-Orn) linked to the chromophore via an amide bond (39). In addition to pseudobactin B10 , Pseudomonas strain B10 produces pseudobactin A, a nonfluorescent hydroxamatelike siderophore and a likely intermediate in pseudobactin biogenesis (40).…”

“…For steric reasons, in such an equilibrium only the cis-SR' and cis-R S species can be taken into consideration. Low A c values were also found for ferric and chromic aerobactin [29] and ferric pseudobactin [30], each containing one a-hydroxy-substituted carboxylic acid ligand in addition to catecholate or hydroxamate coordination groups.…”
