Structures and Interaction with DNA of Ternary Palladium(II) Complexes: [Pd(Gly)(X)] (Gly=Glycine; X=2,2′-Bipyridine, 1,10-Phenanthroline and 2,2′-Bi-pyridylamine)

Abstract: Following the discovery of cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (cisplatin) as the successful antitumor drug, 1) the research of the design and synthesis of novel platinum(II) complexes, having more favorable antitumor activities as compared with cisplatin, has been continued. [2][3][4][5] Palladium(II) complexes have been also investigated for developing the new antitumor agents, [6][7][8][9][10][11][12] because palladium(II) has a similar coordination mode and chemical properties to platinum(II).12) As the resul… Show more

“…The binding constant value of palladium complexes are found in the range of 1.58 × 10 4 -6.57 × 10 4 M − 1 ( Table 3). The complexes show similar binding constant value with Pd(II) complexes reported by Yodoshi et al and Mansouri-Torshizi et al [15,16]. This phenomenon is attributed to the strong stacking interaction between the aromatic group and base pairs of CT DNA, when the complexes intercalate to the CT DNA.…”

“…The Pd-N(barb) distances are somewhat longer than those found in 3, while the Pd-N(dpya) bond distances are close agreement with those found in palladium(II) complexes of the dpya ligand. 39,[62][63][64] In the crystal, the molecules are triply bridged by the N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, leading to layers propagating in the (000) plane.…”

“…Among the large number of metal compounds tested with this method, recent studies describe the genotoxicity assessments on ternary palladium complexes, which cause the cleavage of cellular DNA [39]. The results of this method were evaluated by fluorescent microscopic analyses; we obtained structures with cometshaped appearance (Fig.…”
