This research paper explores the role of language in shaping cultural and social attitudes towards gender and the importance of using gender-inclusive language to promote gender equality and eliminate gender bias. Specifically, we analysed the Victorian government website in Australia https://www.vic.gov.au/ over some years from 1970-2023 to Measure and compare the evolution of its language across this period in terms of gender neutrality. To conduct this research, we created three datasets by scraping data from three different websites. The first two datasets comprise a list of masculine and feminine words used in the English language, while the third dataset comprises a list of gender-neutral words approved by the Victorian government. We compared this list of words with the data provided by the Victorian government website, and based on this analysis, we assessed how gender-neutral the website was. The findings show that using gender-inclusive language is a powerful way to promote gender equality and eliminate gender bias. Moreover, our analysis reveals that the Victorian government website has become more gender-neutral over the years, which signals their commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusivity. Overall, our research underscores the importance of using gender-inclusive language in all communication, including website content, to create a more inclusive and equitable society.

El currículo contable afronta varios retos reflejados en la educación y en el ejercicio profesional, entre ellos, la inexistencia de la perspectiva de género e interseccionalidad. En este artículo se desarrolla una reflexión sobre la importancia de incluir la variable interseccionalidad para fomentar la diversificación del currículo contable dentro de un contexto más amplio que vincula el género, la raza, la etnia, el estrato económico, las discapacidades y la migración, entre otros aspectos que fortalecen situaciones específicas en el proceso formativo contable. A manera de reflexión, este documento permite demostrar la importancia de generar fuertes avances en el currículo contable desde la perspectiva de la interseccionalidad, lo que a su vez ayudará a abordar temas esenciales y maximizar el impacto en la comunidad académica, basándose en diversas temáticas que se dejan postuladas inicialmente.

In this paper, the various arguments that have been presented with respect to usage of generic masculine forms and pair/feminine forms are discussed and analysed. The source of the data is provided by a questionnaire carried out in October 2019, including a sample of answers and comments from Slovak, Czech and Polish respondents. In the study, two dominant views on generic masculine forms, arbitrary and semantic, are introduced and discussed against empirical findings from many experiments and studies. The material from the questionnaire is qualitatively analysed with respect to the axiological reactions of the respondents. The language attitudes are further classified into eight categories: representation, offensiveness, addressing, economy, textual qualities, language naturalness, tradition and ideological markedness. The attitudes of participants from both “camps” are quoted to illustrate the argumentation process yielding to the acceptance or rejection of forms substantiating gender-inclusive language.
