Studi Literatur Aktivitas Antidiabetes pada Tanaman Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi) dan Belimbing Manis (Averrhoa carambola)

Abstract. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease characterized by high blood glucose levels than normal values. Wuluh starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi) and sweet starfruit (Averrhoa carambola) plants from the Averrhoa genus, Oxalidaceae tribe are known to have antidiabetic activity. The purpose of this literature study was to determine which parts of the wealth starfruit and sweet starfruit have antidiabetic activity as well as the active compounds that play a role in these activities and their mechanism of action. The method used is to search for literature from articles that have been published in National Journals and International Journals. The results of the literature study showed that the leaves, fruit, and stems of the star fruit had antidiabetic activity. The mechanism of the wealth starfruit fraction etil asetat is by increasing insulin secretion in pancreatic cells which is thought to be due to the presence of quercetin compounds. The leaves and roots of the sweet star fruit have antidiabetic activity. The mechanism of the ethanolic extract of sweet star fruit root is to protect against the occurrence of cell damage in the pancreas which is thought to be due to the presence of compounds 2-Methoxy-6-nonylcyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (MNDD) and 2-dodecyl-6- methoxycyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (DMDD). The active compound in sweet star fruit that can play a role in antidiabetic activity is apigenin-6-C-β-fucopyranoside in the leaves by increasing glucose absorption in the soleus muscle which works through the insulin signaling pathway. Another compound is DMDD in the roots by weakening the expression of AGEs that play a role in the occurrence of nephropathy.
 Abstrak. Diabetes melitus (DM) adalah suatu penyakit kronis yang ditandai dengan tingginya kadar glukosa darah dari nilai normal. Tanaman belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi) dan belimbing manis (Averrhoa carambola) yang berasal dari marga Averrhoa, suku oxalidaceae diketahui memiliki aktivitas antidiabetes. Tujuan dari studi literatur ini untuk mengetahui bagian tanaman dari belimbing wuluh dan belimbing manis yang memiliki aktivitas antidiabetes serta senyawa aktif yang berperan dalam aktivitas tersebut dan mekanisme kerjanya. Metode yang digunakan yaitu dengan mencari pustaka dari artikel yang telah dipublikasikan dalam Jurnal Nasional dan Jurnal Internasional. Hasil dari studi literatur menunjukkan bahwa bagian daun, buah dan batang pada tanaman belimbing wuluh memiliki aktivitas antidiabetes. Mekanisme pada fraksi etil asetat buah belimbing wuluh yaitu dengan meningkatkan sekresi insulin pada sel β pankreas yang diduga karena adanya kandungan senyawa kuersetin. Daun dan akar pada tanaman belimbing manis memiliki aktivitas antidiabetes. Mekanisme pada ekstrak etanol akar belimbing manis yaitu dengan melindungi terjadinya kerusakan sel di pankreas yang diduga karena adanya kandungan senyawa 2-Methoxy-6-nonylcyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (MNDD) dan 2-dodecyl-6-methoxycyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (DMDD). Kandungan senyawa aktif pada belimbing manis yang dapat berperan dalam aktivitas antidiabetes yaitu apigenin-6-C-β-fucopyranoside pada bagian daun dengan meningkatkan penyerapan glukosa pada otot soleus yang bekerja melalui jalur pensinyalan insulin. Senyawa lain yaitu DMDD pada bagian akar dengan melemahkan ekspresi AGE yang berperan dalam terjadinya nefropati.
