Studies in the talchir flora of India,8. Miospores from the talchir boulder bed and overlying needle shales in the Johilla coalfield (M.P. India)

Abstract: Miospore assemblages are, for the first time, recorded from the Talchir Boulder Bed and overlying Needle Shales in the South Rewa Basin: The Boulder Bed assemblage contains 13 genera and 20 species, while the Needle shales have 17 genera and 24 species. Both assemblages, having several common taxa, are predominated by monosaccate pollen as is generally characteristic of other known Talchir miofloras. “…It is also closely comparable to the other known assemblages of Talchir Formation recovered from South Rewa Gondwana Basin at Goraia (Potonié & Lele, 1961); from Jayanti Coalfield (Lele & Karim, 1971;Lele & Makada, 1972) and from Mohpani Coalfield (Bharadwaj & Anand-Prakash, 1972). Lele & Chandra (1973) also described a Talchir Assemblage from Johilla Coalfield which is rich in Rugasaccites along with Plicatipollenites and Parasaccites. The present palynozone also shows a close resemblance to the above mentioned assemblage except, that here genus Rugasaccites is absent.…”

“…Only the palynoflora from the Talchir Formation is relevant, therefore, to the present discussion. The assemblages from the glacigene Talchir Formation were described by Lele and Karim (1971), Lele and Chandra (1973) and Lele (1975). Typical assemblages from the formation contain about 86 per cent monosaccates, 10 per cent disaccates (about 0•5 per cent taeniate) and only 3 per cent trilete spores.…”
