Studies on correlations among parasitaemia and some hemolytic indices in two tropical diseases (theileriosis and anaplasmosis) in Fars province of Iran

Abstract: This study was carried out in two observational clinical studies. Study 1 comprised 50 adult crossbred cattle naturally infected by Theileria annulata. Infected animals were divided into 4 subgroups with different parasitaemia (<1%, 1-3%, 3-5% and >5%). Study 2 comprised 20 adult crossbred cattle naturally infected by Anaplasma marginale. Infected animals were divided into 3 subgroups with different parasitaemia (<10%, 10-20% and 20-30%). In study 1, a significant negative correlation (P<0.001) was observed be… Show more

“…Increased activity of LDH is probably due to vascular thrombosis, hemorrhage and tissue breakdown especially in liver and kidney of infected animals [21] . The value of LDH is higher in case of sheep (583.8暲83.6) than those of goats (304.2暲143.0) and this difference is statistically highly significant (P=0.001).…”

“…Also, despite previous studies on bovine tropical theileriosis pointing out an immune-mediated hemolysis indicated by the presence of a hemagglutinin in T. annulata infected calves (Hooshmand-Rad, 1976), some recent findings suggest that anemia could be a consequence of the oxidative damage of RBCs, as well as significant modulation of erythrocytic antioxidant enzymes activities (Shiono et al, 2003;Rezaei and Dalir-Naghadeh, 2006;Nazifi et al, 2008). On the other hand, other studies have suggested that erythrocyte destruction during oxidative stress was related to lipid peroxidation of the RBCs (Friedman, 1979;Grewal et al, 2005).…”

“…Al examen clínico se evidencia depresión, debilidad, pérdida de peso, ictericia, fiebre y anemia progresiva, disminución en la producción de leche y muerte (16). Los animales que se recuperan de este curso clínico o poseen preinmunidad permanecen infectados sin manifestaciones clínicas, y sirven como reservorio del microorganismo (20).…”
