Studies on eco-friendly concrete incorporating industrial waste as aggregates

Abstract: 10The present day research is focussed on development of alternative binder materials to Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) due to huge 11 emissions of green house gases associated with production of OPC. GGBFS-FA based geopolymer binders are an innovative alternative 12 to OPC which can obtain high strengths apart from being eco-friendly; since its production does not involve high energy and also con-13 tributes to sustainability by using the industrial waste materials. Steel slag, an industrial by-product obtain… Show more

“…FA is in the form of spherical particles composed of many phases-amorphous and also crystalline compounds, mostly silicon, calcium, aluminium and iron oxides. The versatility of fly ash for production of different types of cements is attributed to its physical features, chemical properties and phase composition [77][78][79].…”

“…Hence there is a need for the production of artificial aggregate which meets present requirement of the construction industry. Weight loss and reduction in strength was monitored up to 56 days and durability test was conducted on normal cured specimen for 28days continuous immersion in NACL solution from the results it show that the present manufactured aggregate NitendraPalankar et al (2015) [13] in this project binder materials to ordinary Portland cement due to some amount of green house gases combined with production opc. GGBFS-FA geopolymer of concrete with steel slag coarse aggregate are prepared by recycling the natural granite aggregate at different percentage replacement of 0%, 25%,50%,75% and 100% of physical and mechanic properties.…”

“…The new research conducted by Palankar and et al is focused on the development of binder material alternatives instead of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) [21]. There are geopolymers binders which can be used as an alternative to OPC and these materials obtain high strengths, being eco-friendly and do not involve high energy for hydration.…”

“…In concrete industry, it is supposed that the quantity of Portland cement used has been reduced by replacing it with the cementitious materials like fly ash, granulated blast furnace slag. References [1,10,21] referred to the importance of cementitious additives for the concrete sustainability.…”
