Studies on Trueperella Pyogenes Isolated from an Okapi (Okapia johnstoni) and A Royal Python (Python Regius)

Abstract: Background The present study was designed to characterize phenotypically and genotypically two Trueperella pyogenes strains isolated from an okapi (Okapia johnstoni) and a royal python (Python regius), respectively. Results The species identity could be confirmed by phenotypic properties, by MALDI-TOF MS analysis and by detection of T. pyogenes chaperonin-encoding gene cpn60 with a previously developed loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay. Furthermore, sequencing of the 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) g… Show more

“…In 2013, Zhang et al developed a LAMP assay using the gene encoding pyolysin, the plo gene, for a specific identification of T. pyogenes (Zhang et al 2013). Furthermore, a pla LAMP assay was used for identifying A. pluranimalium (Abdulmawjood et al 2015), and a cpn60 LAMP assay for identifying T. pyogenes from different animal origins (Abdulmawjood et al 2016;Ahmed et al 2020;Alssahen et al 2020).…”

“…Cultural and biochemical characterization as well as CAMP-like hemolytic reactions of the Trueperella isolate were investigated as described previously for other bacteria of the genus Trueperella and Arcanobacterium (Hijazin et al 2011;Eisenberg et al 2012;Ahmed et al 2020;Alssahen et al 2020). Detailed biochemical properties were determined in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions using the API-Coryne test system (BioM erieux Deutschland GmbH, N€ urtingen, Germany).…”

“…Ahmed et al [87] used MALDI-TOF for identifying T. pyogenes isolates recovered from a vaginal discharge of an okapi (Okapia johnstoni) and the kidney of a female royal python. Shah et al [88] reported on an emerging One Health concern -the growing popularity of backyard poultry flocks in the United States and corresponding increased risk of human-animal contact and transmission of pathogens.…”
