“…Since the IZiNCG algorithm was published, six new data points from three studies of zinc absorption in adults meeting the IZiNCG criteria above have been identified [34][35][36]. Three of the diets studied had a phytate:zinc molar ratio greater than 18 and three of 18 or less.…”

“…Natural Zn consists of five stable isotopes, and the natural abundance of 67 Zn (4.1%), 68 Zn (18.8%) and 70 Zn (0.6%) are sufficiently low for their utilization as tracers (Krebs & Hambidge 2001). Many researchers orally administered stable isotopic Zn as a tracer and the TA of Zn was determined as the absorption of the tracer, and the EFL of Zn was calculated from the difference between the TA and the apparent absorption of Zn in rats (Rubio et al 1994;Takasugi et al 2007), pigs (Chu et al 2009) and humans (Rauscher & Fairweather-Tait 1997;Yang et al 2005). However, to our knowledge, the TA and EFL of Zn have not been studied using stable isotopic Zn in ruminants.…”

“…It is recommended as the method of choice for determination of fractional zinc absorption (12, 13, 15, 19). The technique applied to a spot urine specimen is easy to implement and not sensitive to participant compliance.…”

“…The goal of the present trial was to use the double-isotope tracer ratio (DITR) 7 method (1113) to compare zinc absorption from zinc citrate with zinc gluconate and zinc oxide when these zinc compounds were given as supplements without food. This is recommended to maximize zinc absorption and is usually advised for diarrhea treatment.…”
