“…Our study indicates that publication rates between AAOS, OTA, and AAHKS are similar, with 60% to 63% of conference abstracts going on to publication in a peer-reviewed journal within two years. These data are consistent with other published results, supporting an increase in publication rates of conference abstracts 3,5,6,8,10,12,13,15,16,21 (Table 6). With the breadth of research submitted and presented at these meetings, review committees are seeking out higher quality research for presentation, which serves as a positive selection bias for publication.…”

“…Only one previous paper reported subspecialty publication rates for the 2001 American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Meeting, with a podium and poster publication rate of 53% [23]. The SECEC publication rate is comparable to other international congresses and even to general congresses for trauma and orthopedics [13, 6, 7, 13, 15, 18, 23] or specialty meetings [4, 5, 812, 14, 16, 17, 1922] (Table 2). …”

“…All these figures, except the figure of poster presentations, from the 23rd congress is substantially lower than those reported in the previous study, 44% for podium and 22% for poster presentations. Although it is known that podium presentations typically consist of studies of higher scientific value 12 and they are more than twice as likely to be published compared to poster presentations, 3 23% and 18.6% publication rates for poster presentations still suggest that the scientific quality of the poster presentations at the 23rd and 24th congresses was very insufficient.…”
