Study of effective properties of modified 1-3 piezocomposites

Abstract: Based on the piezoelectric theory and a homogeneous mass assumption, the piezoelectric equations for a modified 1-3 (1-3-2) composite, having as structure a piezoelectric ceramic plate and a 1-3 piezoelectric composite, are deduced. The formulas used to calculate the effective parameters of modified 1-3 piezoelectric composites are derived. The influence of piezoelectric phase volume fraction on the properties of the modified 1-3 composites has been analyzed. In addition, some composite samples were fabricated… Show more

“…The performance evaluation of piezoelectric composites for various applications has been discussed in the literature, refer [19,20,28]. The usage of piezocomposite as a transducer for the underwater acoustic or hydrophone applications [39] can be evaluated based on the hydrostatic charge coefficient (d h ), hydrostatic voltage coefficient (g h ), the hydrophone figure of merit (FOM)-(d h g h ) and the hydrostatic electromechanical coupling factor (k h ) that are defined as…”

“…Concerning the longitudinal stress, the homogenized or averaged stress on 1-3 composite layer along the direction-3 and the normal stress of the ceramic base layer in the direction-3 are considered to be same, by considering the overall homogeneous stress equilibrium condition for the 1-3-2 piezocomposite along the longitudinal direction, refer to [28]. In a similar way, the shear stress in the (1-2 plane) is considered to be equal for the 1-3 composite, the ceramic base and the 1-3-2 composite:…”

“…19 In the literature, studies about 1-3 piezocomposites are focused on the variation of material properties as function of volume fraction of PZT fiber and to identify the effective material properties and influence of fiber orientation using analytical approach. [20][21][22] Non-linear behavior of 1-3 piezocomposites are studied by subjecting it to various loading conditions above the coercive electric field, which shows that the fiber volume fraction dependency in the switching polarization, and remnant values. 23 Various applications studies were also carried out to find out the performance when compared to the bulk PZT.…”
