Study of Mathematical Reasoning Ability for Mathematics Learning in Schools: A Literature Review

Abstract: This article aims to examine students' mathematical reasoning abilities. This study is in the form of using approaches and strategies for improving students’ abilities. Differences in mathematical reasoning abilities were revealed from a gender perspective, teaching materials oriented towards mathematical reasoning, teacher perceptions, and design of teacher action characteristics to improve the process of students' mathematical reasoning. Scientific articles are studied to collect information about students' … Show more

“…This strategy appears in DNR-based instruction, especially at the problem solving and internalization of reasoning processes. The ability to generalize and justify will emerge if teachers design challenging learning for students followed by activities to guide students(Marasabessy, 2021). This is in accordance with the principle of necessity in the DNRbased instruction model, namely that students must be given challenges so that their intellectual needs arise.…”

“…From Figure 2, it can be seen that 2022 is the year with most the publications about this research. Research of CT in mathematics learning continues to increase, especially from 2021 to 2022, namely from 8 studies in 2021 increasing to 16 studies in 2022 (Husnah et al, 2021;Marasabessy, 2021;Hashim et al, 2021).…”

“…Teachers need to learn about the culture of their students so that they can adapt the culture to learning mathematics [26]. The use of ethnomathematics in learning will improve students' ability to use mathematics in their social lives outside of school [42] - [45]. The mosque is one of the cultural environments that are close to Indonesian students.…”
