Study of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio and Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio in Hypertensives and Normotensives

Abstract: Background and Aim: Long-term hypertension proceed to development of atherothrombotic disease and it's a major healthcare problem worldwide. Platelets and neutrophils play an important role in Cardiovascular (CV) events and development of atherothrombotic disease. Recently, Neutrophil/lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and Platelet/lymphocyte Ratio (PLR), which can be easily calculated from the differential blood count, have been proposed as novel systemic inflammation-based markers predictive of thrombotic events. The ai… Show more

“…Although the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) was found to be higher in a study group of hypertensive patients, the difference was not statistically significant [62]. A study conducted by Bayrakci et al [63] indicated that a high PLR in individuals with hypertension might suggest an increased risk of atherosclerosis, and this could potentially have predictive value in the future.…”

“…Additionally, larger-scale studies should be used to clarify how antihypertensive medication types affect NLRs [61]. Likewise, higher NLR hypertensives have been shown to be more susceptible to atherothrombotic and atherosclerotic events [62].…”

“…Hypertension is a major risk factor to the development of atherothrombosis which is responsible for about 25% of deaths worldwide. 1 Neutrophils and platelets play a major and significant role in the development of atherothrombosis leading to fatal cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Presently, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio and platelet lymphocyte ratio which can be easily calculated from complete blood count have been identified as novel systemic inflammation-based indices predictive of cardiovascular risk.…”
