Study of System Integral Energy Efficiency of a Hybrid Pneumatic Power System

Abstract: Currently, in the field of vehicle engineering, researchers are focused on finding a new type of high-efficiency vehicle. Based on the conventional powertrain system, the hybrid pneumatic power system (HPPS) is a type of hybrid system that focuses on compressed air power instead of the electrochemical energy conversion of a battery. This study concentrates on the integral efficiency of the HPPS. The HPPS was operated under different conditions of internal combustion engine speed, fuel consumption, compressor s… Show more

“…The main goal is to develop an easily handled vehicle that would contribute to reducing environmental impacts and noise while driving as long a distance as possible [23]. Moreover, the automotive company PSA worked on the development of a car powered by compressed air that would replace the electromotors in the company's hybrid vehicles [31].…”

“…The engine efficiency and operation modes have been widely investigated on the new combined thermodynamic cycles of HPE. 24,25 Fazeli et al 26 studied the recycling capability of braking regenerative energy using double compressed air tanks. The experimental results indicated a 125% improvement in energy recycling compared to the single-tank system.…”
