Study of the dispersion of natural gas issuing from compressor stations through silencers with upper cover

Abstract: The aim of the present study is the simulation of the dispersion of natural gas issuing from the silencer of compressor stations during vent operations. The objective is to analyze the dispersion of the gas emitted under different conditions of mass flow rate at the exit and ambient cross-flow velocity. We have considered a silencer with an upper cover to protect it from the rain and the fall of objects. The influence of the upper cover of the silencer on the dispersion of natural gas has also been studied, an… Show more

“…It needs to be asserted that the commercially available computational fluid dynamics code FLUENT has been employed so far in several accident scenarios [7], [6], [8], [9], [10]. Simulation in this research shows the effects of the temperature with wind velocity on the dispersion of chlorine gas in the indoor environments that include a chlorine tank in the storage.…”

“…From the above figures, It is easy to see that after 40 s, smoke Table 1 Coupled equations for control of 3D field model for smoke movement. [13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. It can be seen that smoke temperature near fire source is quite high and the maximum temperature is 850 K after 420 s. The maximum temperature under the ceiling is between 500 and 600 k, which is higher than experimental data.…”

“…Based on the integral model, some software packages or computational tools for NG release calculations have been developed (Arnaldos, Casal, Montiel, Sánchez-Carricondo, & Vílchez, 1998;Sklavounos & Rigas, 2006a). The CFD model which numerically integrates the conservation equations of mass, species, momentum and energy of fluid flow in the two-or three-dimensional directions, is the most complex model and has also been widely applied in the NG release simulations (Chan, 1992(Chan, , 1997Cormier, Qi, Yun, Zhang, & Mannan, 2009;García, Migoya, Lana, & Crespo, 2008;Luketa-Hanlin, Koopman, & Ermak, 2007;Sklavounos & Rigas, 2006b). Although the CFD model can provide the real gas release and dispersion process by considering the turbulence and complex terrain, it is the most computationally expensive approach among the model types.…”
