Study on bonding properties of PVC-based WPC bonded with acrylic adhesive

Abstract: In this paper, the bonding properties of polyvinylchloride (PVC)-based wood-plastic composite (WPC) materials bonded with acrylic adhesive have been studied. The results showed that dry compression shear strength of bonded specimens glued with acrylic adhesive was 6.12 MPa, and reached 58.8% of the strength of the PVC-based WPCs. The results also showed that wet compression shear strength in accordance with Chinese standard GB/T17657 was 0.9 times the dry compression shear strength of 5.48 MPa. In addition, th… Show more

“…The presented study is focused on an experimental analysis of the effects of surface treatment on the adhesive properties of selected WPC façade cladding. Currently, established traditional joining methods, e.g., rivets or screws, are commonly used, however, as some recent studies indicate [12,15,16,17] these methods cause higher failure rates. The main reason can be seen as the high stress concentration at the joint, which results in the occurrence of fatigue-caused cracks [16,17].…”

“…The main reason can be seen as the high stress concentration at the joint, which results in the occurrence of fatigue-caused cracks [16,17]. Welded or adhesive-bonded joints have proven to be more suitable and durable alternatives [4,10,15,18,19,20,21]. They ensure better stress distribution in the joint that consequently results in greater construction stiffness and greater stress resistance [22,23,24].…”

“…У наукових роботах Ru-XiangCheng [11] порушені питання міцності адгезії ак-рилових композицій з бетонними, стале-вими і дерев'яними основами при різних температурних умовах. Дані дослідження показали, що міцність даного виду клею може змінюватися в широких межах, шля-хом введення (додавання) модифікуючих добавок.…”

“…[14][15][16] Incorporation to these mechanisms, the acrylic-based PSAs have excellent adhesion with polymer and glass surfaces, highest transparency, good water resistance, and excellent resistance to weatherability. [17][18][19] Despite having such ideal properties, acrylic-based adhesive lack in the selection of the crosslinkers and flame retardancy. A strong adhesive force with the substrate comes from the strong, cohesive force present within the polymeric chain and thus to induce that the crosslinking of the acrylic group is essential.…”
