Abundant sensors in various types are widely used in modern cities to comprehend the current situations in real time. The raw data in open conditions is always in low quality and is hard to employ directly due to its imperfect or missing records. Traditional data preprocessing methods focus on the offline historical data and remain a dilemma between the efficiency and the overhead. In this paper, a data harmonization service DS-Harmonizer is proposed on spatiotemporal data stream in the edge computing environment. Through the online cleaning and complementing steps of the hierarchical service instances, the records’ validity and continuity can be guaranteed in an efficient way. On the simulated data in a practical project, the service shows high performance, low latency, and acceptable precision in extensive conditions.

Due to the proliferation in the number of vehicles on the road, traffic problems are bound to exist. Therefore, the use of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has become mandatory for obtaining traffic information from roads. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been used to obtain vehicles’ IDs (tag ID) from RFID readers and to collect traffic information in real‐time. This paper proposes a simulation system for the Vehicle Traffic Congestion Estimation (VTCE) based on RFID. The RFID reader will read the vehicle tags and transfer the necessary information to a database in a Central Computer System (CCS). The CCS utilizes these data to determine the traffic congestion status of the road network by following a specific procedure

In highway domain, many routine analyses are required on business spatio-temporal data to monitor and control the traffic situation in time. Such analytics as big data applications through traditional ways remain inherent challenges due to the inflexibility of the holistic procedure, the variety of the computational jobs and the diversity of the customised visualisation. In this paper, we propose a service solution in a specific highway domain for business technicians to build their own data analytical applications conveniently and rapidly. On massive toll data through respective services, our solution provides evolutionary capacity to load, process and reveal spatio-temporal data for building comprehensive data analysis. In a practical project, our work proves the feasibility and advantages by exhaustive case studies.
