Study on the binding of cerium to bovine serum albumin

Abstract: The interaction of Ce(3+) to bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been investigated mainly by fluorescence spectra, UV-vis absorption spectra, and circular dichroism (CD) under simulative physiological conditions. Fluorescence data revealed that the quenching mechanism of BSA by Ce(3+) was a static quenching process, the binding constant is 6.70 × 10(5) , and the number of binding site is 1. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔH = -29.94 kJ mol(-1) , ΔG = -32.38 kJ mol(-1) , and ΔS = 8.05 J mol(-1) K(-1) ) indicate that … Show more

“…On comparing the peaks of ANC and albumin a slight shifting in the peaks were observed corroborating the interaction of albumin with nanoceria as reported earlier[36,[56][57][58]. The albumin coating on the surface of nanoceria was further confirmed by thermogravimetric (TG) analysis of ANC showing a minor weight loss in the temperature range between 30 to 900 o C as shown inFig 3(d).…”

“…As in our case, CNPs also have a high value of zeta potential around 36.3 mV, while BSA has a net negative charge in water (pH = 7), suggesting that electrostatic interactions are mainly responsible for CNPs interaction with BSA. 23,24 In Fig. 3(b), major peaks were observed around 1652, 1540, 3070 and 3420 cm À1 for pristine BSA corresponding to the amide I (CQO stretching vibration), amide II (N-H bending vibration and C-N stretching vibration), amide A (-NH stretching vibration) and -OH stretching vibration, respectively, as discussed previously.…”

“…By the home-made FI-CL model [46], the binding constants K D and the number of binding sites n of BSA with La III , Eu III , Gd III , Tb III and Lu III are listed in Table 6. It could be seen K D were at 10 4 -10 5 level, suggesting that there existed a high binding affinity of Ln III to BSA, which agreed well with the results obtained by fluorescence quenching method [47][48][49]. The binding ability of Ln III increased in the sequence: La III oEu III oGd III o Tb III oLu III , which was highly related to Ln III expansion-inducing ability increased and steric effect decreased caused by lanthanide contraction [50].…”
