Studying the Liquid–Liquid Equilibrium of Systems Water +2-Hydroxyethylammonium Propanoate or 2-Hydroxyethylammonium Butanoate or 2-Hydroxyethylammonium Pentanoate +1-Pentanol at 293.15, 313.15, and 333.15 K: Experimental Determination and Thermodynamic Modeling

Abstract: Data on the liquid−liquid equilibrium (LLE) for the systems water + [2−HEA][Pr], [2−HEA][Bu], and [2−HEA][Pe] + 1-pentanol were determined at 293.15, 313.15, and 333.15 K and atmospheric pressure. Phase diagrams of the ternary systems were determined using the turbidimetric titration method and the tie-lines were quantified using the gravimetric method. Othmer−Tobias correlation confirms the quality of the experimental LLE data (R 2 > 0.95). The NRTL (nonrandom two-liquid) and UNIQUAC (universal quasichemical)… Show more

“…20 To our knowledge, ternary-system data using PILs as solvents are still scarce in the literature. In 2015, Mesquita et al 21 studied decane (1) + toluene (2) + 2-HEAF (3) ternary systems at T = 303.15 and 333.15 K. Additionally, in 2017, Silva et al 22 studied water + 2-hydroxyethylammonium propanoate, 2-hydroxyethylammonium butanoate, or 2hydroxyethylammonium pentanoate + 1-pentanol at T = 293.15, 313.15, and 333.15 K. For this reason, in this paper, experimental data for alkanes (n-pentane, n-hexane, n-heptane, or n-octane) + (methanol or ethanol) + 2-HEAF have been studied at T = 298.15 K and at atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa). Generally, LLE data are usually modeled by using local composition models (e.g., NRTL) for academic and industrial purposes.…”
