Subclinical Aujeszky's disease virus infection in a pig herd and the characterisation of the strain of virus isolated

Abstract: The spread of antibody to Aujeszky's disease virus through a susceptible pig herd was monitored after the probable introduction of infection by a recently purchased boar. The infection spread slowly through the herd but no clinical signs of Aujeszky's disease were seen. The strain of virus isolated was designated NIA-6. It has been characterised by a series of experimental infections and extends the known range of virulence of isolates of Aujeszky's disease virus made in Northern Ireland. The strain caused no … Show more

“…The RFPs in PAA also confirm that many 2a subtypes exist and are recovered throughout the geographial area. These findings confirm the existence of one typical fragment pattern in France, as has been found to be the case in northern Ireland [24,38], in Denmark [8], in the U.S.A. [34], and in Japan [31]. Nevertheless detectable variations of the cleavage pattern from one isolate to another, have been described by Gielkens et al [12].…”

“…La identificación específica de diferentes aislamientos del PRV por medio del análisis del patrón de fragmentos de restricción permite realizar estudios epizootiológicos (33,84,110,120,201), para el control de la enfermedad (63) y para diferenciar los distintos grupos virales actuantes (230). Así por ejemplo, puede utilizarse para diferenciar cepas virulentas de cepas vacunales (62).…”
