This study aimed to analyze and gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences pertaining to successful aging in middle-aged women in South Korea. A sample of 12 middle-aged women, capable of sharing their lived experiences, was divided into three age-based groups: those in their 40s, those in their 50s, and those aged 60–65 years. The collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. Five theme clusters and ten themes emerged. The experiences of successful aging among middle-aged women were categorized as: “Coping with changes in the mind and body”, “Financially stable life”, “Undergoing the aging process with a healthy family”, “Preparations for dying well”, and “Pursuing a meaningful, harmonious life”. These findings highlight the need for programs that prepare middle-aged women to positively accept and enjoy older adulthood by identifying and addressing the factors essential for successful aging and reducing any negative emotions attached to aging and older adulthood.

The purpose of this study is to apply Q methodologies to identify and understand the type of successful aging perception in nursing students. The study organized the Q population through in-depth interviews to select 21 Q samples that could represent the Q population by coordination with two professors and researchers familiar with the Q methodology, and 49 nursing students were selected as P-samples. The data collection was about three months from September 10, 2020 to September 17, 2020 and was analyzed using the PQ Method Program. According to this study, nursing students perception of successful aging was divided into four types: Type 1 "capitalism type," Type 2 "Self-esteem type," Type 3 "Adaptive type," Type 4 "Stable type". As a result of this study, the four types of nursing students recognized health, leisure, economic power, and self-esteem. This study, understanding of each type of subjective aspect should be enhanced, and a wide range of insights should be provided so that nursing students can establish a value system of humanity and nursing professions in the undergraduate program in the future. In addition, it is expected that it will be used as a basic material for nursing education that can grow into a nurse who can meet the national expectations as a health care manager for the elderly through education that can develop the ability to cope with various problems faced in the nursing field.

Background: Aging is a significant risk factor for a majority of chronic diseases and impairments. Increased medical costs brought about by the increasing aging population in the world increases the strain on families and communities. A positive and qualitative perspective on aging is successful aging (SA). Successful aging refers to the state of being free from diseases or impairments that hinder normal functioning, as observed from a biological perspective. This differs from typical aging, which is associated with a gradual decrease in both physical and cognitive capacities as individuals grow older. Methods: In this study, the geriatric data acquired from the Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital, Ado-Ekiti was initially prepared, and three fundamental machine learning (ML) techniques such as artificial neural networks, support vector machines, and Naive Bayes—were then constructed using the data from a sample of 2000 individuals. The Rowe and Kahn Model determined that the dataset was SA based on factors such as the absence of fewer than or equivalent to two diseases, quality of life, nutrition, and capacity for everyday activities. Results: According to the experimental findings, the predictive network Artificial Neural Network (ANN) performed better than other models in predicting SA with 100% accuracy, 100% sensitivity, and 100% precision. Conclusions: The results show that ML techniques are useful in assisting social and health policymakers in their decisions on SA. The presented ANN-based method surpasses the other ML models when it comes to classifying people into SA and non-SA categories.
