Successful Laparoscopic Right Gastroepiploic Aneurysmectomy: Report of a Case

Abstract: A 75-year-old woman presented with a pulsatile, movable mass, about 5 cm in diameter, in her lower abdomen. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a circular mass with a variable hypo- and isoechoic border and a hypoechoic center. Color Doppler echography showed blood flow in the hypoechoic center, which was strongly enhanced on contrast-enhanced computed tomography. Based on these findings, we diagnosed a splanchnic artery aneurysm; however, celiac arteriography, performed twice, could not definitively identify i… Show more

“…Recently, laparoscopic surgery has been increasingly accepted as a surgical approach to treat unruptured visceral artery aneurysms when transcatheter arterial embolization is impossible . Laparoscopic surgery for visceral artery aneurysms has been performed in 55 cases (Table ) . Resection of the aneurysm, including the adjacent organ, was performed in 51 of these cases (93%); the remaining four patients underwent ligation of the aneurysm.…”

“…This has traditionally been followed by surgical correction. The surgical management consists of resection of the aneurysm, ligation of the feeding vessels or some forms of arterial reconstruction [ 5 , 13 ]. Radiological intervention with embolisation of the feeding vessel is an option in splanchnic aneurysms.…”
