“…A re cent publication showed favorable results in postmeno pausal patients with multiple meningiomas with up to 10 years of followup. 27 Overall, the side effects of longterm RU486 treatment seem to be minor, so no discontinua tion of treatment was necessary in either study. Immuno histochemical progesterone receptor staining was done, although there was no proof of progesterone receptor expression; such staining seems to be mandatory when considering RU486 treatment.…”

“…Although tumour recurrence is an important and not infrequent event, our knowledge on predisposing factors is rather limited. The risk of recurrence increases with the WHO grade being 7-25% in WHO grade I, 30-50% in WHO grade II and 50-95% in WHO grade III [27,28,32,33]. The extent of resection assessed by the Simpson Grading System influences recurrence rates which is one reason of the wide range of probability [30].…”

“…Clinical studies on its efficacy show, however, contrasting results [7,76,77], and only minor evidences exist to recommend mifepristone with inoperable progressive meningiomas, after consideration of the histological grade of the tumor and progesterone receptor expression [78]. Positive preliminary results were obtained with diffuse meningiomatosis [79].…”
