“…Research has also shown parietooccipital volume reductions in suicidal patients with bipolar disorder (Benedetti et al, 2011), borderline personality (Soloff et al, 2012), and various psychotic disorders (Giakoumatos et al, 2013). Several studies have noted volumetric differences in the insula (Giakoumatos et al, 2013;Soloff et al, 2012), thalamus (Giakoumatos et al, 2013), basal ganglia (Benedetti et al, 2011;Dombrovski et al, 2010;Vang et al, 2010;Wagner et al, 2011), posterior corpus callosum (CC; (Cyprien et al, 2011), hippocampus (Colle et al, 2015) and amygdala (Monkul et al, 2007;Spoletini et al, 2011;Wagner et al, 2011). These areas have broad connections to the fronto-limbic system and temporal lobe; therefore, these regions could contribute to the emotion dysregulation associated with suicidal behavior.…”
