“…It is plausible that adolescents with poor parent and peer relationships are less likely than those with good parent and peer relationships to discuss their body concerns, which, in turn, may lead to the development of body dissatisfaction and psychological disorders [13,[20][21]. Çetin [22] has noted that body image dissatisfaction of Turkish adolescents aged 14-20 years is apparently related to poor family relations, especially the mother-daughter relationship, and that this negativity may lead them to contemplate suicide.…”

“…Adolescents with a depressive disorder often have a negative self-image (Korhonen, Laukkanen, Peiponen et al, 2001), and the Emotional Tone scale in particular has been shown to be an independent factor associated with major depressive disorder (Fine Hally, Mervyn et al, 1993). In a Turkish study, three groups of adolescents (age 14-20 years) were compared using the OSIQ scale: suicide attempters (n ¼ 33), nonsuicidal psychiatric outpatients (n ¼ 50) and normal controls (n ¼ 50) (Cetin, 2001). Suicidal girls in particular had more a negative Familial Self and lower Impulse Control than girls in other groups.…”
