“…The recycling of the catalyst could minimize the negative impact of the chemical processes on the environment that is much needed for the "green chemistry" [23,24] Due to the environmentally friendly nature of the heterogeneous catalysts, enormous attention has been paid on the design and synthesis of solid acid catalysts for use in the petrochemicals, pharmaceutical or cosmetic. [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34] Several heterogenous acid catalysts such as strong acid cation exchange resins, [35] H-form zeolites, [36] supported heteropolyacids [37,38] and mesoporous materials with À SO 3 H functional groups [39][40][41] have been used for the catalytic dehydration of fructose to HMF. Amongst these heterogeneous catalysts, mesoporous silicas supported À SO 3 H functional groups are considered as excellent catalysts for the production of HMF via dehydration of hexoses due to their high surface areas, tunable pore sizes, large pore volumes, highly ordered structures, and relatively high thermal and mechanical stabilities.…”
