“…The field of kinesiology should be working toward the development of a climate of diversity that helps change the perceptions of and attitudes toward African American students and faculty (Lowrie & Robinson, 2013). Clear definitions of expectation for all faculty and students are necessary to create a climate of diversity (Hodge, Brooks, & Harrison, 2013). This climate should provides avenues for the recruitment of promising undergraduate students, retention of those students, mentoring of those students to foster the transition to graduate school, support during graduate school (e.g., financial, cognitive, and social), and the means for networking so that students can be hired as highly qualified faculty in kinesiology departments.…”
