Sunlight-style color-temperature tunable organic light-emitting diode

Abstract: We demonstrate a man-made lighting device of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) capable of yielding a sunlight-style illumination with various daylight chromaticities, whose color temperature ranges between 2300 and 8200 K, fully covering those of the entire daylight at different times and regions. The OLED employs a device architecture capable of simultaneously generating all the emissions required to form a series of daylight chromaticities. The wide color-temperature span may be attributed to that the reco… Show more

“…17 In Plate III(b) , the resultant device shows signifi cantly high luminescence at relatively low applied voltages, which increases from 20 to 5900 cd m −2 for voltages increasing from 3 to 9 V. As shown in the electroluminescent spectra in Plate III(c) , the device initially shows a predominantly red-emission spectrum at 3 V with CIE coordinates (0.48, 0.42), turns to pure white (0.33, 0.33) at 5.5 V, and becomes bluish white (0.28, 0.29) at 9 V.…”

“…1 Amongst, light-emitting diode (LED) and organic lightemitting diode (OLED) solid-state lighting [2][3][4][5][6] technologies have already achieved power efficiency (PE) near to that of fluorescent tubes. However, researchers have rarely focused on developing physiologically friendly light sources, especially for use at night.…”

“…Nevertheless, little attention have been paid to color temperature which is closely related to radiation of blue light until recently. Some progress in low color temperature has been done by Jou et al [8]- [10]. Manuscript They report a device with CCT of 1773 K which is lower than that of candle [9].…”
