Superconducting transport properties of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x bicrystal grain boundary junctions

Abstract: We have performed a detailed study of the superconducting transport properties of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x bicrystal grain boundary junctions (GBJs). The GBJs were fabricated by the deposition of c-axis oriented epitaxial Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x films on SrTiO3 bicrystal substrates. The measured resistive transition R(T), the current-voltage characteristics (IVCs), the temperature dependence of the critical current density Jc(T), and the magnetic field dependence of the critical current Ic(B) of the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x GBJs are si… Show more

“…For the B1M30HA750 sample, the resistivity of the grain boundaries is high, [59]. This is consistent with DN calculated using equation (10), and shows that it is possible to increase pinning across grain boundaries.…”

“…For B1M30HA750, the grain boundary resistivity is GB = 9.71×10 −3 Ωm. These values are almost a thousand times larger than microcrystalline values, but are nevertheless similar to Mayer's [59] grain boundary values of (2.0 − 6.5)×10 −3 Ωm on Bi-2212 bicrystals. For the B2 samples, the grain boundary resistivity in all our samples are large.…”

“…This value is comparable with similar bicrystal junctions of YBCO [4] and higher than values obtained in former publications for BSCCO bicrystal junctions [5]. The critical current density, J c , for this junction was 1.3 Â 10 4 A/cm 2 , and for all the junctions J c was always about two orders of magnitude lower than J c in BSCCO films.…”

“…We note that the T c reduction in the oxygen deficient YBCO is obtained by well controlled oxygen depletion and is not caused by the presence of magnetic impurities in the samples or at the grain boundary. Furthermore, BSCCO-GBJs were fabricated in the same way with a T c of the BSCCO-films of about 80 K [72]. This T c value is reduced by about 10 K as compared to optimum doped samples [73].…”
