“…Peak expression was observed 6 h after treatment, and changes in the enzymatic activity of SOD were generally consistent with changes in gene expression. Previous studies have also demonstrated that SOD activity increases in hemocytes and muscle cells of L. vannamei treated with an immunopotentiator, and the survival rate increased following bacterial infection, suggesting that SOD regulates the immune response in shrimps (Campa-Cordova et al, 2002). In crustaceans, SOD and phenoloxidase are two enzymes with roles in the immune system, which may be used as indicator enzymes to detect immune function (Amparyup et al, 2013;Liu et al, 2013).…”

“…Superoxide dismutase is the first enzyme to respond against oxygen radicals (McCord and Fridovich 1969) and is the one that offers the greatest response to oxidative stress (Winston and Di Giulio 1991). Campa-Córdova et al (2002) reported haemocytes and muscle showed similar increased levels of superoxide dismutase activity after immersed in aerated b-glucan and sulfated polysaccharide solutions for 6 h and demonstrated the immunomodulatory action of superoxide dismutase and its possible use as an indicator of immune responses in L. vannamei. Catalase is a major primary immune defense component that works primarily to catalyze the decomposition of H 2 O 2 to H 2 O. Lysozyme and alkaline phosphatase are symbol enzymes of lysomase that can damage foreign substance and accelerate hydrolysis and transphosphorylation (Harada 1991;Jolles and Jolles 1984;Yano 1996).…”

“…The major function of SOD is to scavenge superoxide anion. SOD has been known as the important immune factor in aquatic animal (Campa-Córdova et al 2002;Wang and Chen 2006). In C. farreri, the studies also indicate that SOD activity can reflect the immunological state .…”

“…Moreover, many humoral factors also take part in immune defense, such as SOD has been reported to correlate well with immune competence of crustacean. As a free radical elimination enzyme, SOD is essential to minimize the oxidative damage to host cells in the immune defense Campa-Córdova et al 2002). The major function of SOD is to scavenge superoxide anion.…”
