Superselective renal artery embolization for bleeding complications after percutaneous renal biopsy: a single-center experience

Abstract: Objective This study aimed to determine if superselective renal artery embolization is a safe and effective method of treating bleeding complications after percutaneous renal biopsy. Methods From January 2006 to December 2017, 43 patients (22 men and 21 women, mean age: 44.5 ± 14.0 years) underwent angiography for post-biopsy bleeding complications following percutaneous biopsy. Patients underwent angiography and superselective artery embolization. We recorded serum creatinine and hemoglobin values to assess t… Show more

“…In our study, we used PVA 100-300 μc to occlude subsegmental branches of traumatic bleeding. Large vessels were incompletely occluded as the particles become embedded in the walls [22,23]. PVA control during injections is easy but reflux is common and occurred in one of seven studied cases.…”

“…PVA particles were used in many studies. These particles occlude variable-sized arteries according to their size range [22][23][24]. In our study, we used PVA 100-300 μc to occlude subsegmental branches of traumatic bleeding.…”

“…Most renal arteriovenous fistulas due to renal biopsy are asymptomatic and resolve spontaneously within 2 years, but some may be symptomatic and require interventional treatment [15]. The treatment has been surgical for years with a partial or total nephrectomy and ligation of the arterial vessel [13,14,16]. Endovascular treatment allows to occlude the afferent vessel and has progressively replaced surgery therapy.…”

“…Слід зазначити, що забезпечення надійного гемостазу під час операції на нирках при їх пухлинному ураженні можливо не тільки інтраопераційно шляхом теплової ішемії, а і безпосередньо перед операцією [32,33,34]. Одним із таких методів є емболізація гілок ниркової артерії.…”
